2016 is the Year of Georgia Music

Let's show visitors why music is the rhythm of our souls in Georgia!

  • -Shaky Knees Festival

All of us at Georgia Tourism are so looking forward to what's ahead in 2016 as we celebrate the "Year of Georgia Music."

Throughout 2016, the Georgia Tourism team will concentrate our ongoing digital, social, public relations and sales efforts on promoting live music -- music festivals and events -- as well as the attractions, exhibits, tours and landmarks that allow visitors to experience Georgia music past and present.

Our goal is to showcase and expand music tourism as a sustainable tourism niche that generates economic and cultural benefits statewide. With the launch of the "Year of Georgia Music" campaign, we will feature more of our music offerings in our marketing and communication efforts, including:

  • A new music landing page at
    • This dynamic landing page will include music-themed itineraries with corresponding Spotify play lists; a "Today in Georgia Music" feature that chronicles important dates in Georgia's music history; road trips that follow specific musical genres around the state; as well as a comprehensive list of music festivals (those festivals whose primary theme is music, not food or another theme). We will be adding new itineraries and road trip ideas and expanding existing ones in the coming weeks.
  • The addition of a new Georgia Explorer. Glen Sarvady, who has joined the popular Georgia Explorers program as the new Music Explorer, will provide regular blog posts and articles.
  • A music-themed Pretty. Sweet. advertisement, that was used in the Oxford American: Georgia Music issue, will be used in other ad placements throughout the year.
  • Music-focused cover and content in the 2016 Georgia Travel Guide. The guide cover features a one-of-a-kind image of Luke Bryan from Leesburg, Georgia, performing at a concert in Atlanta. Inside the guide, a unique music feature jumps off the pages with an iconic photo of musicians from every travel region of the state, and spotlights a few of the participating musicians' favorite venues and festivals.
  • Upcoming PR efforts will include a drive market media blitz and desk-side media briefings to share Georgia's music story; several FAM tours will be hosted for both travel writers and group travel companies.
  • Music-specific content will be used on all digital media platforms throughout the year, and all music posts will include #GeorgiaMusic. Instagram takeovers by Georgia musicians will also take place throughout the year.
  • The Business Development team will treat travel writers and group travel company staff to a VIP experience at the annual Country to Country event that features several Georgia artists performing in the UK.

We invite you to join us in this effort by promoting 2016 as the "Year of Georgia Music." Below are ways you can participate in the campaign:

  • Use the "Year of Georgia Music" logo on your website and in event promotions.
  • Use #GeorgiaMusic in your music-related posts and tweets throughout the year.
  • Invite the new Georgia Explorer for music, Glen Sarvady, to your community by filling out the hosting application HERE at
  • Encourage music festival organizers in your community to upload details about their event on A comprehensive list of music festivals can be found on the new music landing page; but if the local organizer or CVB does not upload the details, the festival will not be included. Refer to the Partner Admin Training Manual for step-by-step instructions for how to post event information to
  • Use the event calculator available at  to track the economic impact music tourism has in your destination. Please share these numbers with Georgia Tourism's Research Director, Andria Godfrey at

While we are spearheading the "Year of Georgia Music," the more that our tourism and music partners utilize the YOGM logo and #GeorgiaMusic in promoting live music and music heritage in their communities, the more successful our efforts will be. Together, let's show visitors why music is the rhythm of our souls in Georgia.
